Welcome...
You have found us...
Here is where, we hope, most the out-of-class participation will occur. Beyond any partnering you do with other class mates, your sharing here of insights, ideas and experiences will enhance the learning for everyone.
For starters, why not add a post here that introduces yourself to the rest of the class. It will also help us get to know you.
Visit often.
Thanks,
Julie and Hal

ReplyDeleteHello, I am Sabine. I came to the US in 1998 from Germany. I live in San Francisco and currently work in the south bay as an SAP Consultant, helping corporations implement the software effectively.
ReplyDeleteMy interests are in psychology, neuroscience and leadership and I believe these topics to have a significant relevance in all aspects of life.
I am looking forward to another interesting and inspiring Stanford class!
Hi, my name is Olivier Gillin.
ReplyDeleteOriginally from Belgium I moved to the us in 2005: 3 years in New York as a Project Manager and 1+ year in the bay area as a Program Manager for Yahoo! Mobile (m.yahoo.com).
As a Team leader I've always striven to motivate people around me in creative and engaging ways.
But I also realized that I regularly apply constraints on my own thinking and therefore limit my creativity.
I look forward to working on these topics in the class and meeting with you all on Monday!
Hello, my name is Bonet. I lived in Indonesia and Canada before moving to the Bay Area 3 years ago. Currently I work as a programmer. One of my interests is entrepreneurship and I'm hoping that I can learn a thing or two about improving my creativity and leadership skills in this course. I look forward to meeting everyone on Monday :)
ReplyDeleteHi everyone,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Vedrana. My background is in psychology, journalism and communications. Currently I work as an internal communications program manager for a financial company in San Mateo.
My work requires me to create conditions in which all project or program participants from top executives to technicians contribute to the end result on creative, intelligent, focused and productive way. I’d like to increase my capacity to help establish meaningful end of project visions, steer people towards creating attainable and inspiring goals and create right mental and emotional conditions for high quality implementations.
Things at work and in life can be accomplished on many different ways, but I find intriguing and interesting the path of unlocking intelligence, creativity and capacity, my own and people that I’m associated with.
I’m looking forward to participating in the class and meeting everyone.
Greetings to you all,
ReplyDeleteWe so appreciate your introducing yourselves and sharing a bit about what you do and why you are taking this course. Participation here, on our blog, will help everyone gain so much more out of the material we present.
See you tonight!
Hal and Julie
Hello, my name is Venki, originally from South India. Moved to US in 1996, lived in Michigan and Arizona before relocating to San Jose last year. I am a technical program manager at INTC, managing/developing factory automation applications.
ReplyDeleteI am quite excited about doing this course, hoping to discover the creativity side of me!! Look forward for another wonderful learning experience at SCS. See you all this evening.
Hi, my name in Nitasha, originally from India. Been a student in the states (East Coast) for two years, and have been working for another 2 years since. I am a software engineer at Cisco, and enjoy sports and voluntary activities in spare time.
ReplyDeleteI am very excited about this course, and look forward to seeing you all today evening.
Hello everyone, I am Sabrina. I am originally from Mexico, but I been living here in the US for 7 years. I am excited for this class and looking foward to get to know each other, more than our names.
ReplyDeleteOne of things that I have been thinking about is that I consider myself very impatient. As I would think "I need results now". Must be that I am still young and I have not experienced much of the business world.
But, how can you wait if an idea or a conflict comes along? What if you dont have results right away? How do you manage to deal with it?
I am pretty much talking in general. No specific scenario or anything.
Any suggesstions will be fine..
Hi, I thought I'd introduce myself again, even though I already did in class. :)
ReplyDeleteMy name is Catherine and I've been living in the US since I was in fifth grade. I grew up in the Bay Area (South Bay), then stayed in LA for about six years before moving back to Northern California.
I work as a Marketing Analyst (the less glamorous side of marketing, dealing with numbers...) at Nintendo of America (subsidiary to Nintendo).
The first class was really interesting and I look forward to getting to know you all and learning, not only about the subject matter but also about myself, through this class.
See you next Monday!
-I'm David. I'm new to this class, but not new to Continuing Studies. Although I have taken numerous business courses, the format and content of this one appears really different!
ReplyDelete-This course appealed to me because of the concept "emotional intelligence" which was the topic of a course I took last semester here at Stanford. (Highly recommended!)
-I am a medical practice office manager in San Jose. I work for a coercive physician, and the office environment is chaotic. The week before this class started, I actually did the "great idea exercise" without knowing what I was doing. I was looking for a new approach to my work and communication with others.
-As usual, the courses I sign up for somehow perfectly fit in with my current stage of personal development, and I intend on participating to my fullest. Hal and Julie, thanks for offering this new experience!
Hi, All,
ReplyDeleteI'm Andrew, the one drew boring bricks in his name card.
After hearing all the creative things people did to their cards, I banged my head against a virtual wall. :) I need to be more creative :).
So, I seriously need to be in this class, even just to get some more creative ions from the fellow class mates.
I was born in China, and grew up in Australia for my childhood, youth and college years.
I worked on a Wall St bank for a few years, before realizing that was too business focus for me.
Now I am a passionate, software engineer who has a extreme visionary, leader-like boss, and a very organized, manager-like manager.
Satisfying both is challenging, and hopefully this class will teach me ways to handle things better.
In my spare time, I ballroom dance.
Hello everyone,
ReplyDeleteOriginally from Geneva Switzerland, I moved to Palo Alto a year ago.
I am a boutique manager for a high end sunglass store at the Stanford Shopping Centre. Given the recent economical down turn, traffic decreased and assigned goals are difficult to attain. I believe this class will help me develop the necessary skills to improve my leadership/managerial skills and develop new creative tools to motivate my teams.
I am really looking forward to the next weeks together.
See you on Monday,
Eugenie
Hello Everyone,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Lori and like many of you, I'm a California transplant. I'm originally from Washington state, but have lived in Iran, Tanzania and Spain. I've worked in the high tech industry for 12 years and thoroughly enjoy my current role as group manager for a beta program management team at a software company nearby.
This class has already helped me identify the ways in which I can improve as a manager and facilitator of creative thinking at work. In my personal life, the Live-With "Silencing the VOJ" and Hero's Journey visualization excercise have helped me identify a life-long dream.
Many thanks to all of you for sharing your candid, thoughtful insights in class!
My name is Sridhar Karnam, I am introducing myself after few weeks; sorry for the delay.
ReplyDeleteI am a full time international student doing my Masters in Engineering Management with focus on Product Management at Santa Clara University. I am also working full time as Product Manager at a telecom mobile web 2.0 company.
Born and raised in India, I am very new to US/ California. I am enjoying this place so far with 15 hour busy schedule everyday. It is more fun than I thought it would be.
I am taking few classes at Stanford as part of concurrent education and I really like this class as it gives the basic framework for both being creating and show leadership. Some of the cases that we are discussing are proof of that.
Thank you class for being so interactive and making this a wonderful learning experience.
